   ABOUT US :      
        The institute was established in the year 1988 and was registered under the societies Act, 1860 soon after , vide registration No. 200/89-90 in the name and style of Bihar Institute of Mining and Mine Surveying.

           All the technical, supervisory and managerial posts in mines are governed by Mines Regulations framed under the Mines Act, For appointment on a specific post , a candidate has to pass competency Certificate examination for that post.

      These certificate examinations for the posts in coal mines are conducted by Board of Mining Examinations, constituted under regulation 11 of the coal mines Regulations, 1957 framed by the Central Government in exercises of the powers conferred under 57 of the Mines Act, 1952. The respective Certificate examinations for the posts in metalliferous mines are also conducted by the same authority in accordance with the relevant provisions of Metalliferous Mines Regulations 1961.

 The institute prepares the students for the following :-
             i) Overman/ Mines Foreman Examination – 4 years duration including 3 years
                piratical training in mines.
            ii) Mine surveying Examination – 3 years during including 2 years practical
                training in mines.
Theoretical lectures, coaching and practical classes are conducted by team of well qualified and experienced staff. For taking practical training , the students are depute to different mines in separate batches.
Obtaining practical experience in mines is an essential ingredient of mining education.
The duration and nature of practical training for each Competency Certificate examination has been specified in the Regulations and Bye-laws and each student is required to complete the same before appearing at the Board’s Examination. The training of the students is arranged by the Institute in different collieries of ECL,BCCl,NCL,CCl,SECL – all subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd., (Government of India undertaking) and also in the mines of IISCO, TISCO and Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation (JSMDC).
It would be pertinent to mention that an Expert Committee constituted by M/S Coal India Ltd. , (CIL) had visited different Mining Institutes, in and around Ranchi, a few years back. After inspecting the infrastructural facilities it found that this Institute was the best among all and placed it in category “A”, the highest rank for the purpose of providing practical training in its mines. Accordingly all the students are provided training facilities in its mines.
